Golf Course Construction Design, construction and Layout

This unit will develop students understanding of Golf Course Construction Design and Layout. It is designed to enable the student to understand and appreciate the principles of design and layouts associated with new and existing golf courses and enable them to gain knowledge of construction.

Students will be introduced to the design and construction of golf course features and also the predominant types of golf courses.

Golf Course Construction

There are three main types of golf course. These are:

·        Links

·        Parkland

·        Heathland

There are other types and layout of course and difficulty such as championship or resort courses.

Other layouts which may be encountered are:

·        Desert

·        Bushveld

·        Moorland

·        Lava Field

 

All golf courses share common features. Such as:

·        Greens

·        Tees

·        Fairways

·        Bunkers

 

Depending on location and type, courses may have features such as ponds, lakes, streams, rivers or sea.

Much depends on the geographical location in which a course is situated this will determine.

·        Soil

·        Grass type
