A person credited with this unit standard will be able to supervise and oversee the use of a fitness facility and the equipment in the facility. Achievement of this unit standard will enable the qualifying learner to help members with the use of the equipment, as well as assist them with regard to orientation to the use of the facility and the equipment in the facility.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:

• Orientate participants to utilise fitness facilities.
• The purpose and function of the apparatus and equipment are explained.
• Instruct participant/s in using the apparatus and equipment.
• Supervise use of facilities, apparatus and equipment.

In addition, they will be well-positioned to extend their learning and practice into other areas of sport or fitness disciplines or to strive towards professional standards and practices at higher levels.
